Nick Ring will not be fighting tonight on the UFC 154 card. Apparently, Ring had a high fever and doctors have not allowed him to fight. At this late stage, there will be no opponent for Constantinos Philippou. Mark Bocek and Rafael dos Anjos will fight on the PPV now that the Ring vs Philippou fight is off.
Ring had weighed in and made weight yesterday.
This news was confirmed by UFC_CA’s twitter account:
Tough luck for @Promise_RiiNG as he’s out due to illness. Speedy recovery. @MarkBocek fight moved to PPV, @AntonioPatoMMA to prelims #UFC154.
Brian Bird, Nick Ring’s coach and head of Champion’s Creed MMA, posted the following on Facebook.
Very bad news regarding Nick Ring’s fight. He has been pulled from the card by UFC doctor orders. Nick became very ill in the middle of the night. Likely from a virus that took over from a weakened immune system from cutting weight. I saw him early in the morning and it was clear he was incredibly sick. We called the UFC officials and they brought in their doctor to inspect him and after made it clear he is not OK to fight. Nick is resting in bed on IV at the moment. Nick never asked to pull out and was very concerned with letting down, his friends, fans, the UFC, and his opponent Constantinos Philippou. This really sucks but safety comes first. The only good news is his moustache still looks good.
I will keep you all updated on his progress.
