A bantamweight bout between Brad Pickett (22-6 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and former WEC champion Eddie Wineland (19-8-1 MMA, 1-2 UFC) has been added to the year-end UFC 155 event.
Pickett today announced the fight.
UFC 155 takes place Dec. 29 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The night's main card, including a heavyweight title fight between champion Junior Dos Santos and ex-champ Cain Velasquez, airs on pay-per-view. Pickett vs. Wineland likely will be part of the prelims, which FX and Facebook are expected to carry.
Pickett, a British fighter and former WEC fighter, made a statement and thrust himself into the title picture with a first-round knockout of fellow contender Yves Jabouin this past month at UFC on FUEL TV 5. Pickett is now 3-1 in his past four fights, and the lone loss came to Renan Barao, who won an interim title earlier this year. In his three UFC appearances, Pickett has won two "Fight of the Night" bonuses and a "KO of the Night" award.
Wineland, the first-ever WEC 135-pound champion, avoided a 0-3 start to his UFC career back in June when he knocked out Scott Jorgensen in a "Fight of the Night" performance. Wineland closed out his WEC career with four straight wins, but once in the UFC, he suffered back-to-back decision losses to Urijah Faber and now-flyweight-champ Joseph Benavidez.
