Former Women's MMA star-turned Hollywood action star Gina Carano lands new action movie role in what is set to be a female version of the hit movie franchise, "The Expendables." Gina Carano's acting resume is getting more and more impressive by the day. After making a successful acting debut in 2009, starring in Steven Soderbergh's spy thriller "Haywire," the former "Face of Women's MMA" snagged a role in the sixth installment of the wildly popular and successful "Fast and The Furious" franchise opposite heavy-hitting action movie star and avid mixed martial arts (MMA) supporter, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, which is currently in production. Carano had previously wrapped up "In The Blood," which hasn't garnered much attention. Now, Variety reports "Conviction" is headed to the big screen yet again, this time, taking on a role in the female version of "The Expendables," the box office hits that featured a cast of past and current action movie stars such as Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight champion, Randy Couture. Adi Shankar, producer of the upcoming film, had this to say about casting Carano as one of the lead actresses: "I don't know how I'm supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of 'The Expendables' without Gina Carano in it. It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba." Having already rubbed elbows with some of "Tinsel Town's" best such as Michael Douglas, Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor and the aforementioned Dwayne Johnson, Carano will now be taking notes from her female counterparts in a film that is sure to include a bevy of women action stars if it truly plans to follow in the footsteps of "The Expendables." For those expecting a cheesy spinoff, don't be so quick to judge. Shankar's production company has had a hand in films such as "The Grey," "Dredd 3D," and the upcoming film, "Killing Them Softly," starring Hollywood megastar, Brad Pitt. |
