UFC light heavyweight king Jon Jones (Pictured) has put May’s DWI arrest in his rear-view mirror, and it appears Nike has already forgotten about the unfortunate incident, as well. On Wednesday afternoon, “Bones” notified the Twitter universe that he’ll now be repping the world famous Swoosh.
“Blessed to be signed by the biggest sports apparel company in the world #NIKE Dreams do come true,” Jones posted. “Never allow anyone to tell you what you can or cannot do #Bonesknows.”
Jones joins UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva as the only mixed martial artists to be sponsored by the sports clothing giant. However, while Silva had the Swoosh plastered across his fight gear at UFC 148, “The Spider’s” deal is focused primarily in Brazil.
Jones, meanwhile, will receive global exposure. He’ll also have his own signature line, similar to NBA greats Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.
As with most aspiring athletes who grew up during the Michael Jordan era, Jones always dreamed of being sponsored by Nike. However, some thought the 25-year-old flushed the opportunity down the toilet after wrapping his $190,000 Bentley around a telephone pole while intoxicated.
Jones became the first fighter to be sponsored by the UFC when he faced Rashad Evans in April. Although, the organization knew his aspirations of joining Phil Knight’s superstar squad and said they would allow him to dissolve the contract if the offer arose.
Jones will flaunt his new threads on September 1st when he defends his throne against Dan Henderson at UFC 151.
