In advance of his UFC 148 rubber match with Tito Ortiz, Forrest Griffin obtained a therapeutic use exemption for testosterone replacement therapy, according to Pro MMA Radio host Larry Pepe.

Multiple attempts to confirm details on Griffin's exemption with Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer were unsuccessful.

Ortiz today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) he would consult with his representatives before issuing a statement to the media.

Griffin bested Ortiz by unanimous decision in the co-main event bout, which took place this past Saturday at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and aired live on pay-per-view. The bout served as Ortiz's retirement bout after the two split a pair of previous fights at UFC 59 and UFC 106.

A rep for Griffin was unreachable for comment.

Griffin is the sixth reported fighter to obtain a therapeutic use exemption in Nevada following Chael Sonnen, who also received one in advance of his title fight against Anderson Silva in the headliner of UFC 148. Following UFC 146 in May, Kizer revealed that Frank Mir, who was unsuccessful in a bid for heavyweight champ Junior Dos Santos' belt, was the fourth fighter.

Previous fighters to get a TRT exemption in the state include Shane Roller, Todd Duffee and Dan Henderson.

Griffin was not present at an NSAC meeting on May 21 in which Sonnen was unanimously approved for an exemption. Sonnen was ordered to undergo additional blood testing following a review of medical paperwork justifying his use of TRT.

A winner on "The Ultimate Fighter 1," Griffin won the light heavyweight title from Quinton "Rampage" Jackson at UFC 86 and ceded it in his next fight to Rashad Evans at UFC 92.

Maybe I am wrong but isnt TRT what you take when you have taken so much steroids earlier in your life that your body stopped producing the same amounts of testosterone as it should?

It sounds from the fighters that used it lately as if its some kind of mild "pick me up" cure that has no consequences on the fights. But then why do they do it? If its not cheating then what is it? I understand that when it is a question about being able to do your job, in this case fighting, you might be prepared to take the risk of inserting hormones or testosterone into your body, but I cant help to think that if you are so ill that you need a testosterone replacement treatment you are not healthy enough to train and fight at the UFC level. Or if you are, then you are obviously cheating.

I hear Dennis Hallman and other say that if they wouldnt have made it they "could have died". That really doesnt sound like a health situation where you should do a training camp of several weeks and probably a weighcut, and even less to fight and risk getting badly beaten.
