op 145-pound prospect Alexandre "Popo" Bezerra (11-1 MMA, 4-0 BFC) will take part in Bellator Fighting Championships' upcoming season-six featherweight tournament.
MMAjunkie.com (
www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed Bezerra's inclusion with Bellator officials.
Bezerra joins Ronnie Mann (21-4-1 MMA, 3-1 BFC) and Daniel Straus (17-4 MMA, 3-1 BFC) as officially confirmed featherweight tournament contenders.
Wagnney Fabiano (14-3 MMA, 0-0 BFC) and Marlon Sandro (20-3 MMA, 3-1 BFC) are both also expected to take part in the tournament but have yet to be officially announced for the bracket.
Bellator's sixth season, which airs on MTV2, kicks off in March.
Bezerra should be a familiar name to Bellator fans, as the Brazilian has competed four times for the promotion in non-tournament contests. All four fights ended via stoppage and three came in the very first round.
Bezerra's lone career loss came via submission in a September 2009 bout with current UFC contender Charles Oliveira. Eleven of his 12 wins have via stoppage (four knockouts and seven submissions).
In addition to the featherweight tournament, Bellator is hosting season-six tourneys in the bantamweight, lightweight, welterweight and middleweight divisions. Each tourney winner gets $100,000 in total pay and a guaranteed title shot.
