Stay classy, San Diego. Strikeforce is returning. Multiple sources close to the negotiations today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the promotion's next major event is likely headed to Valley View Casino Center, formerly San Diego Sports Arena, in California. The as-yet-unnamed card features a lightweight title bout between current champ Gilbert Melendez and Jorge Masvidal, as previously reported. As usual, Showtime airs the night's main card. Additionally, women's featherweight champion Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos returns after a year and a half on the sidelines due to contract negotiations. Santos' opponent hasn't been determined. The women who Santos defeated to take the title, Gina Carano, is also targeted to return at the event, though she has yet to confirm her participation on the card. It's Strikeforce's second event at Valley View Casino Center; "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley" was held at the venue in April. Although live gate revenue figures were not released, the event did well on TV, attracting an average of 528,000 viewers on Showtime.
