The unfortunate news for Vitor Belfort on Wednesday is that he was forced out of his bout at UFC 139 against Cung Le. The silver lining to the story however is that Belfort will only be on the sidelines for four weeks while he recovers, and the Brazilian expects to be back in action in December. Belfort updated his injury status via his Twitter account on Wednesday. “I am out of November card, I have to take care of a injury,” Belfort wrote. “Nothing major but the good news that the doctor says I will be ready for December.” Belfort went on to say that the doctors ordered four weeks of physical therapy for the injury. The only missing piece that has not been discovered is what the injury actually was, but with a short rehab time period it’s most likely a joint injury like a knee that obviously doesn’t require any kind of major surgery. Belfort was set to be the co-main event at UFC 139 in his fight with Cung Le, but in his place steps former Pride champion Wanderlei Silva. If his recovery goes according to scheduled, Belfort would most likely be available for the end of the year card currently set for Dec 30 which is UFC 141. The card is currently headed up by former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar as he takes on former Strikeforce heavyweight title holder Alistair Overeem. First things first however is Belfort getting recovered and healthy, and then possibly booking a fight before 2011 is over. Source - MMAWeekly |
