They wanted it, and now they'll get it.

Melvin Guillard (29-8-2 MMA, 10-4 UFC) and Joe Lauzon (20-6 MMA, 7-3 UFC) are now set to meet at UFC 136, which takes place Oct. 8 at Houston's Toyota Center.

Lauzon confirmed the bout via his personal blog after recently accepting a challenge from Guillard in the press.

Both fighters are coming off impressive victories. Guillard most recently concussed Shane Roller at UFC 132 earlier this month, and Lauzon blew through Curt Warburton at UFC on Versus 4.

In subsequent interviews with MMAWeekly.com, "The Young Assassin" suggested a bout with "J-Lau" if, of course, a title shot wasn't available at the moment. Lauzon agreed, and the stage appeared to be set.

With champ Frankie Edgar and challenger Gray Maynard now cued up for the fall event, it appears Guillard had a good idea of what the future held.

Unbeaten since September 2009, Guillard has blazed a trail up the 155-pound ladder with wins over Ronnys Torres, Waylon Lowe, Jeremy Stephens, Evan Dunham and Roller.

Lauzon, meanwhile, is still building a run at the title. Prior to his win over Warburton, the Massachusetts native was submitted by George Sotiropoulos and has yet to rack up more than two wins at a time. With an extended layoff due to knee surgery in 2009, he is back to full steam, but a win over Guillard would mean big things.

Guillard vs. Lauzon is expected to take part on the evening's main card.
