With Makdessi injured, Cerrone faces Taylor at UFC on Versus 5As MMAjunkie.com (
www.mmajunkie.com) first reported, John Makdessi (9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has been forced out of a planned UFC on Versus 5 contest with Paul Taylor (11-6-1 MMA, 4-5 UFC).
Today, UFC officials announced a replacement.
Ten-time WEC veteran Donald Cerrone (15-3 MMA, 2-0 UFC) will now take on the Britsh scrapper in a preliminary card contest.
Featuring a welterweight main event between sluggers Dan Hardy and Chris Lytle, UFC on Versus 5 takes place Aug. 14 at Bradley Center in Milwaukee. The night's main card airs on Versus.
Cerrone brings a four-fight win streak to the cage, a run that includes octagon wins over Vagner Rocha and Paul Kelly. A six-time "Fight of the Night" winner while fighting under the Zuffa banner, the former professional kickboxer counts 12 of his 15 career wins via submission.
Taylor, a former welterweight, is seeking his second win in three fights as a lightweight. After opening his UFC career with a 3-4 mark, he dropped to lightweight and suffered a controversial split-decision loss to Sam Stout at UFC 121. However, he rebounded earlier this year at UFC 126 with a head-kick knockout of Gabe Ruediger.
