Gator roll, Rock(hold).
Ronaldo Souza has been booked to make his return to the Strikeforce cage to defend his middleweight championship at an event that will take place on Sept. 10 at an undisclosed location, according to MMAWeekly.com. His opponent will be long absent 185-pound prospect Luke Rockhold.
Souza hasn't been happy with his current situation, lamenting his lack of activity and pining for a return to competition in some meaningful capacity.
He's pointed his finger at the powers that be with Strikeforce for not finding him desirable fights since winning his middleweight championship. "Jacare" has just one defense of said title, a third round submission of Robbie Lawler.
Does a similar fate await Rockhold?
Don't recognize Luke Rockhold's name? That could be because he hasn't been in action for nearly a year and a half.
Various injuries have kept him on the sidelines since a Feb. 2010 technical knockout win over Paul Bradley at Challengers 6 in San Jose.
That win was his sixth in a row and seven of eight overall. Here's the kicker: those are his career totals. 26 years-old, 7-1 and will enter the cage having been out for 19 months.
Good luck, Luke.
Strikeforce is rumored to hold an event on Sept. 10 of this year, although a location and venue is unknown at this time. The only other fight currently in talks for the show is a lightweight tilt pitting Josh Thomson vs. Maximo Blanco.
