Mike Brown has had a rough go of it since losing the World Extreme Cagefighting Featherweight title to Jose Aldo back in November, 2009.
His record since that fight stands at 2-3 with two consecutive losses. He recently underwent hand surgery to repair a torn ligament and now it has been revealed that he is suffering from a heart ailment.
Brown, speaking on MMAJunkie radio Brown recently, said, "I am seeing a cardiologist. It's something to do with my heart rate not being right."
The former champ continued, "It happened in the middle of camp. We thought we were over-training because I was peaking hard, and all the sudden, I started getting more and more tired really quickly. It didn't make any sense. I'd be sparring for half a round, and I was getting exhausted. But two weeks before, I was mowing through everyone in camp."
There was speculation that Brown would be released by the UFC after his unanimous decision loss to Rani Yahya on January 22nd and Brown commented on that as well, saying, "I was thinking after I lost it was maybe 50-50. Who knows what they were going to do? I've seen great guys get dropped before. I've had a bad year. I wouldn't have been totally shocked if they dumped me, but I thank them for not."
Brown is currently rehabbing from his hand surgery and will surely be a motivated fighter when he returns to the UFC.
