There was a rumor circulating over the weekend that WEC lightweight fighter Donald Cerrone was in a backstage brawl this past weekend at a small show in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Turns out it was true and Cerrone’s brawl forced a main event fighter off of the main event bout at the Evolution combat sports event.
The Na Koa Podcast confirmed Cerrone’s involvement in the backstage brawl, which started over the girl the lightweight fighter is currently training.
“UFC 155 lb fighter Donald Cerrone was involved in a backstage brawl at the Evolution Combat Sports event in Clovis New Mexico event. The brawl was apparently about a young lady now dating Donald Cerrone who used to date main event fighter of the evening Marcus Sursa. Comments were exchanged after Sursa returned from a trip to the rest room and Cerrone was over seeing the warm-ups of several Jackson MMA fighters on the card this night, some words were exchanged by the two and then a shove followed by Cerrone throwing a punch causing a laceration on the eye of Sursa, he responded with a punch cutting the lip of Cerrone.
All told, Sursa was now out of the main event tonight against Buddy Roberts of Reno, NV due to the cut he suffered. This was the only negative i saw, during a great first effort by the fledgling effort of Martin and Sam Singletary known as the Evolution Combat Sports Championships.”
From what I have also heard, Cerrone is no longer dating WEC Octagon girl Britney Palmer. So I do not know who the girls is exactly.
According to the Underground forums, Cerrone supposedly was punched a few times and his friends jumped in between of the two fighters and separated them. Another rumor was Cerrone had a busted lip and a black eye, but the news has not been confirmed yet.
There is no word if Cerrone will face disciplinary action from the UFC/WEC, but we do know that this is not the first time that he has been linked to a backstage fight. There was a rumor circulating online that Cerrone and his nemesis Jamie Varner almost got in a brawl sometime last year and were warned that if they ever came to blows they could face disciplinary action. One rumor suggested they were threatened with their release, but as I said before they are just rumors and not confirmed reports.
