As expected Tyson Griffin (14-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) has replaced injured Joe Stevenson and fights fellow lightweight Takanori Gomi (31-6 MMA, 0-1 UFC) next month at UFC on Versus 2.

UFC executive since have made it official.

The fight remains on the Versus-televised main card of the event, which takes place Aug. 1 at the San Diego Sports Arena in California with a Jon Jones vs. Vladimir Matyushenko light-heavyweight main event.

Stevenson was forced off the card due to a knee injury suffered in training.

His opponent, 26-year-old Griffin, took on Evan Dunham earlier this month at UFC 115 and lost a split decision. Despite the setback, Griffin long has been considered one of the top competitors in the 155-pound division. In 10 UFC performances, he has won five "Fight of the Night" bonuses and one "Submission of the Night" award for his high-paced fighting style.

Prior to the Dunham loss, he has won six of seven fights; the lone loss came to former champ Sean Sherk at UFC 90.

The 31-year-old Gomi is also on the rebound. Kenny Florian soundly outboxed him en route to an eventual third-round submission win at UFC on Versus 1 in March.

Once considered the best lightweight fighter in the world, Gomi went undefeated in the first four years of his professional career and won the PRIDE lightweight championship in December 2005 with a knockout of Hayato Sakurai. But the fighter struggled in the wake of PRIDE's collapse in March 2007, and with a 4-2 post-PRIDE record, he appears to have lost much of the fire that characterized his early performances.

The official UFC on Versus 2 card now includes:

MAIN CARD
Jon Jones vs. Vladimir Matyushenko
Mark Munoz vs. Yushin Okami
Jake Ellenberger vs. John Howard
Takanori Gomi vs. Tyson Griffin
PRELIMINARY CARD
DaMarques Johnson vs. Matthew Riddle
Paul Kelly vs. Jacob Volkmann
James Irvin vs. Igor Pokrajac
Mike Massenzio vs. Brian Stann
Willamy Freire vs. Thiago Tavares
Darren Elkins vs. Charles Oliveira
Rob Kimmons vs. Steve Steinbeiss

The UFC pulled in Griffin who didnt fight that long ago he faces a quick turn around like leben
