Background

The Combat Jiu-Jitsu Middleweight World Championship 2023 has just been announced and the event will take place on December 22nd, 2023. Although the event is a little under two months away, the promotion has already started to announce some of the lineup for the tournament as well. There are still several spaces in the bracket and many competitors are yet to be confirmed, but some pretty big names have been revealed already. Exciting 10th Planet black belt Ryan Aitken will likely be one of the favorites, as he has quite a lot of experience under the Combat Jiu-Jitsu ruleset and is actually the reigning middleweight world champion.

It’s been a little over two years since he managed to win that title though, and quite a lot has changed since then. For starters, William Tackett has developed from being a talented young prospect to a legitimate contender in his weight class. He has also been invited to compete in the Combat Jiu-Jitsu Middleweight World Championship 2023 and he happens to have a particularly unique motivation too. His younger brother Andrew Tackett actually won the Combat Jiu-Jitsu Welterweight World Championship earlier this year and he’ll no doubt be eager to join him as one of the ruleset’s champions.

Hunter Colvin has also been invited to compete and not only does he have a wealth of experience under the ruleset, but he’ll also be pretty eager for revenge too. He was actually beaten by the champion Aitken in the quarter-finals of the last edition, in what was actually a pretty narrow loss in EBI overtime. The final athlete already confirmed is going to be one of several dark horses who might surprise the fans by storming to victory, recently-promoted ATOS black belt Calon Sabino.

The promotion announced the dates and some of the lineup for the Combat Jiu-Jitsu Middleweight World Championship 2023 in a post to the promotion’s official Instagram account.
