The Ultimate Fighting Championship officially has released light heavyweight Houston Alexander, his manager, Monte Cox, today confirmed with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

Alexander, 37, suffered his fourth UFC loss in six appearances when Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson out-pointed him at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale in December.

The fight drew tremendous criticism from fans due to its lack of action, but no one was more vocal in disapproval than UFC president Dana White, who promised to cut Alexander afterward.

It didn't take long, though, for the Nebraskan to find another home.

On Jan. 16, Alexander (9-5), who went 2-4 in the UFC, headlines 5150 Fight League's "The New Year's Revolution" at the SpiritBank Event Center in Bixby near Tulsa, Okla., against Total Combat and King of the Cage veteran Joey Beltran (9-3).

The father of six said going back to smaller shows was what he needed at this point in his career.

"I'm very excited to be fighting again," Alexander told MMAjunkie.com. "Before the UFC, I was fighting every week on the smaller circuit. It keeps me sharp and focused."

A bevy of MMA veterans joins Alexander on the Midwest card, including UFC vets Jeff Monson, Rich Clementi, Tim Boetsch and Jason Lambert.

Tickets for the event start at $20 and can be purchased online at spiritbankeventcenter.com, at the Events Center box office the day of the fight, or by calling (918) 627-7070.

Despite the promotions horrible tag line "come check out some bruises and blood from these brawling bastards, while you booze it up at the bar with your broad" it is a really good lineup with tickets starting at $20.
Alexander embarrassed himself against Kimbo and may be better off in the minor leagues.
